Contract office and retail cleaners

Office and retail cleaning can mean better business.
Can contract cleaners really make you money? It appears so - but how?, office staff don't often see contract cleaners unless they arrive early or leave late. In fact it is probably safe to say that some may not even know who the cleaners are... if they are good.

|
Let's look at an office - any type of office and focus upon the office cleaners. Whilst smaller single offices may employ their own cleaner and suffer during times of illness and holidays, many now contract the work to office cleaning companies. This situation can be a dream or indeed a nightmare - nobody wants cleaners from hell, but they're out there!
How can good contract cleaners improve business?. The answer lies in the type of cleaners and the ethos of the cleaning company. Although by their very nature, contract cleaners clean material objects - they should understand and accept that it is people at the very core of the environment. |
However this ethos cascades from the management who in turn understand and accept that their team is also based on people. Motivated cleaners receive full management support, ensuring total commitment to their customers.
No matter what their status is within the office each individual has their own personal space. It is their work station and their productivity can heavily rely upon that space. So, the contract cleaners have two issues here, cleaning efficiency and respect for the people they probably never see.
When staff arrive at work, their environment is clean and healthy and their workspaces and communal areas are just how they should be, but cleaner than when they left the previous day. No missing or moved items, a clean office and happy staff equal better more productive business.
It's okay looking at what a good contract cleaner should be like but where do we find these motivated office cleaners?
The real beauty of the information super highway is that if you know what you are looking for, you will find it. I use two sources for my research. Google search engine and Top Resource which is a UK business to business portal.
One important aspect is to tell the search engine what you want and where you want it. So if you are in Warwickshire for example, specify that in your search. You are looking for 'Motivated Cleaners in Warwickshire. So, in Google I typed exactly that and these are the results for a contract cleaner in Warwickshire. The number one is Goldcrest Cleaners. Top Resource also delivered Goldcrest Cleaners in the contract cleaners section.
| Whilst we look at this invisible army of office cleaners, the same ethos applies to the retail industry. Although the cleaners may need to be on site during shopping hours to cover accidents in shops such as supermarkets. Health and Safety laws also put pressure on places such as retail outlets, showrooms and other public amenities because the management have a duty of care to ensure a safe environment.
We are all too aware of vast amounts of compensation paid out over a customer slipping on spillage or other unfortunate accidents where the alleged cause wasn't cleaned up as quick as it ought to have been. This however opens a can of worms which we will quickly by-pass. The real point is that the retail industry introduces a new element - the customer. This person becomes the most important in the equation because they ultimately pay the piper. |
|
Imagine for one second that the contract cleaners don't exist. Who enjoys shopping in dirty stores? Can we ask the staff to do a spot of cleaning when they are not serving customers?, soon their will be no customers because they vote with their feet - then the staff have plenty of time to clean. Who then becomes the most important? Cleaning staff do have an important role and at times we are all guilty of looking through and beyond them.
We have looked at how we can find contract cleaning companies such as Goldcrest. What though can we take on face value? Is a multi-national contract cleaning company better than an independent local contract cleaning company?
One important aspect of any contract cleaning company is their portfolio of clients but we can look deeper into this. At the first stage we should not get too excited about a long list of blue chip companies. Could this contract cleaner have recently taken over a small local and independent cleaner and inherited this portfolio?
|
|
How long have these contracts run for, have they been renewed? This is important because if the cleaning company has a history of renewable contracts then the clients are clearly happy. Beware, not all clients renew their contracts with cleaners because of policy and also financial cutbacks. So the odd one or two non renewals should not reflect on either party.
We can look at the management structure of the contract cleaning company and how it cascades. Is it managed by a dedicated team - how many years experience do they have within the industry ? - pedigree is important as well as training and motivating their cleaning staff. Are they equipped to deal with your contract and any challenges that may occur ? What about support? do they operate a fully staffed office with 24 hour contact? There is no priority to these points because each client is different has has different requirements. With this in mind, you will need to discuss these requirements on site. |
A clearly defined specification should be designed together with a cleaning program that is flexible enough to accommodate new challenges and rigid enough to ensure efficiency.
Locality is important too. If your contract cleaner does not generally operate in your area, then where and how will replacement cleaners come from?
