Demand
for British thermoplastics
pressure pipe systems is constantly growing and the UK industrial
plastics industry has gradually increased its share of the building
and construction products market through renewal of old dilapidate
works and substitution of traditional materials.
British
thermoplastics pressure
pipe systems have added longevity by removing corrosion
and rotting from the reasons for replacement, also simple installation
and flexibility have enabled industrial plastics such as PVC
and polyethylene to offer fitters low maintenance costs when
compard with materials such as concrete, clay, wood, aluminium,
copper and ductile iron.
Chris
Knowles managing director of Epco
Industrial Plastics said "Persuading specifiers, architects
and end users to take a long term view, indeed a 'lifetime'
cost way ahead of the initial expense has always been in issue
but fortunately quality plays a major role in building materials
selection and whilst the building and construction industry
is very competitive, the reduction in site times is uppermost
important, we are well placed to service this part of the industry
by supplying the highest quality UK manufactured thermoplastics
in metric and imperial sizes with lower minimum orders."

Home owners
take for granted the use of plastics in the construction
of our houses, pipes and plumbers fittings, window systems
and indeed doors as well as conservatories. The UK plastics
industry continues to develop new innovative industrial
plastic products such as ABS. Acrylonitrile Butadiene
Styrene is a rigid pressure pipe system which is tough
and strong over the recommended temperature range of -40
degrees C to +70 degrees C.
The outstanding properties of ABS are:

· Good chemical resistance
· Abrasion resistance
· Non-toxic and non-taint properties
· High strain tolerance for buried applications
· Good resistance to ultraviolet light
· High strength solvent weld jointing which allows efficient
system assembly and modification.
UPVC is
probably more commonly connected with windows and conservatory
properties.

Hi-PVC is a rigid pressure pipe system which has been designed
for conveying compressed air. It has a recommended temperature
range of -20 degrees C to +25 degrees C up to a maximum pressure
of 12.5 bar.
The outstanding properties
of Hi-PVC are:

assembly and modification.
CPVC
CPVC High Temperature
Application (Girpi HTA)
HTA Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride is a rigid pressure pipe
system which has been designed for higher temperature applications.
It has a recommended temperature range of +5 degrees C to +100
degrees C.
The outstanding properties
of HTA are:
· Unaffected
by atmospherical agents and aggressive waters
· Non-flammable
· Non-permeable to oxygen
· Solvent weld jointing which allows efficient system
assembly and modification.

HTA
is excellent for pressurised hot and cold water plumbing
and air conditioning systems. HTA is Corrosion resistant.
HTA remains unaffected by atmospherical agents (damp or
salty air) and agressive waters (i.e. very pure or acid).
It is non-flammable and is classified M1 by CSTB, Veritas
Marine class 1 certified, and Germanischer Lloyd approved.
HTA is food
safe; All the components in HTA appear in the list of
substances approved for contact with foodstuffs for human
consumption, issued by the french health ministry.

Its pressure resistance is 6 bar at 80°C for a PN25 (tested
4.2 times the nominal pressure ; PN 25 tested at 105 bar) for
a 50 year lifetime. Pressure resistance
6 bar at 80°C for a PN25 (tested 4.2 times the nominal pressure
; PN 25 tested at 105 bar) for a 50 year lifetime. It is impermeability
to oxygen so can be built-in, embedded or buried (including
cold welded joints) with no need for anti-corrosion treatments.

HPF
industrial plastic is used in Kryoclim for conveying
chilled and air conditioning fluids. The system is particulary
suitable for commercial and industrial secondary refrigeration
and indirect air conditioning applications.
This industrial
plastics system offers a lot of benefits against traditional
materials:
Condensation: Reduced problems against traditional
materials. The external temperature of KRYOCLIM pipes
is several degrees higher.

Its anti-corrosion
capabilities make it insensitive to internal and external corrosion.
Kryoclim components are light weight (pipes and fittings) and
quick to install. Being manufactured of HPF alloy it withstands
impact even at low temperature and offers the benefit of perfect
sealing without no leaks
There is a wide
range of pipes available (diameter 20 to 160), fittings and
accessories especially developed to be adapted to existing networks,
KRYOCLIM enables the installation of every kind of commercial
and industrial refrigeration and indirect air conditioning networks
from -30° to +40°C based on the following secondary
fluids such as chilled water and glycols etc.

WORKING
PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE
10 bar from -30°C to +20°C
The flow temperature of some networks (such as process or
defreezing of convection fans ) can reach more than 20°C.
Kryoclim allows a maximum pressure of 7 bar.
WORKING LIFETIME :The working pressure and temperature
indicated in the following tables are determined for a working
life of 50 years without interruption.
Working pressures according to working temperatures are
figured out by using regression curves as per standard NF

A
pressure pipework can be classified as PN 10 (with a safety
factor of 2.5 after 50 years)
if it can tolerate, during one hour, a pressure equal to 4.2
times this PN.
The characteristics of the system can only be guaranteed to
50 years by combining these two parameters.
The readings for the breaking pressures for KRYOCLIM change,
as shown in a straight-line
in logarithmic coordinates. Considering the safety coefficients,
the pressure ratio between
50 years and one hour ranges from 4.2 to 2.5.
This straight line is drawn on the basis of the 1 hr, 100hr,
1000 hr and 10 000 hr tests, and
is then extrapolated to 50 years.
