Online shopping versus shopping centres and retail parks
Shopping centres have changed the way we now live, remnants of traditional shops exist but are few. It isn't just our senior citizens that remember flitting from the grocer to the butcher to the green grocer to the bakery.
In the 60's Arndale Centres transformed many town centres, indeed the Elephant and Castle and Brent Cross became new shopping experiences. Some could say that they are now old-fashioned when compared with Lakeside and Bluewater - and soon we may see White City.
From 'bricks and mortar' to 'clicks and mortar'
Online shopping is rapidly growing and Cyber Malls are entering our lives via the internet. High Street stores are showing their online presence in many of these online shopping centres. Balloon Street is Britain's biggest online shopping centre with most of the famous names like; Marks and Spencer, Boots, Littlewoods, Argos, B&Q, etc.
From the retailers point, they have an online presence capable of entering every home and business in the world. It has no building, no repairs, no fixtures and fittings, no manager and staff - and it can open every single day of the year.
From the customers point, they have no parking, no crowds, 24 hour shopping and with the advent of stricter online security procedures their credit card transactions are safer than ever. And the customer never leaves their chair!
