Civil Engineering CAD Software

Civil engineers traditionally are under threat of drowning in an ever increasing flood of documents. The age old problem of being in two or more place places at the same time restricts the sharing and joint access to design data and technical documents.

We are all aware of state of the art CAD software that performs near miracles but when site offices don't have an AutoCAD type product to plot, the software, no matter how much it cost and how good it is in the office - is useless when you are on site with no access to it.

Even to have a licenced version of AutoCad on your laptop computer - the software is only as good as the power of the laptop and without additional printers and plotters there may be little or no benefit.

Use CADplot Server to enable site offices that don't have AutoCAD to plot. All you need in the site cabin is a PC, a printer and a connection to the main office. CADplot Server requests are sent to the main office for processing by CADplot Server, and the output is directed to the printer in the site cabin.

" This is site office calling head office .."

All site offices naturally have at least one PC with internet connection and a basic printer. Can it be possible for the architect to use the site office PC to access the main office server and have the output directed to the printer in the site cabin.?

If this is possible it opens up so many solutions for civil engineers; the facility to batch plot any number of drawings, could it include default configurations allowing someone to produce HPGL/2, DWF and PDF output straight out of the box without any configuration?

All this is fine if all documents and data are in one place, so no matter how many site offices you worked from, they all glean information from one head office server. If however you have regional offices spread all over the globe, or one in London and another in New York, a document management system would be required to sort what from where.
